KIDMED is a program of Louisiana Medicaid that provides preventive health care for Medicaid-covered children under the age of 21. The goal of KIDMED is to find and treat health problems early and to ensure that healthy children stay healthy. KIDMED covers children's medical exams including hearing and vision checks after age 4. KIDMED also covers immunizations at the appropriate ages and includes lab tests to look for certain common problems.
KIDMED screening became mandatory under Louisiana Medicaid effective June 1, 2003.
• Head to toe physical
• Beginning at age 4, vision & hearing screening
• First well baby check at 2 weeks until 17 years & 11 months
KIDMED is not just a physical exam it is a thorough exam given by qualified staff at SWLA Center for Health Services.
The KidMed department of SWLA Center for Health Services is open the same hours of the Center. There is also some evening appointments for those parents who may have difficulty coming in during regular hours.
To qualify for LaCHIP, your child must meet the following criteria:
• The child must be under the age of 19.
• The child may not currently have health insurance. Household income must be below the income limits. To learn more about the household income limits, click here.
The SWLA Center for Health Services staff are available to assist you in determining eligibility and completing the application process. We accept KIDMED at all SWLA Center for Health Services locations.
