Do you qualify for the Special Enrollment Period?
Special Enrollment Period is a time outside of the Open Enrollment period during which you and your family have a right to sign up for health coverage. In the Marketplace, you generally qualify for a special enrollment period of 60 days following certain life events such as:
Change in Family Status
Marriage, Divorce, Having a Baby, Adopting a Child, Placing a Child for Adoption or Foster Care
Loss of Health Coverage
Coverage, Divorce, End of an Individual Policy Plan for 2014, COBRA Expiration, Aging Off of a Parent’s Plan, Losing Eligibility for Medicaid or CHIP, and similar circumstances.
Important: Voluntarily ending coverage does not qualify you for a Special Enrollment Period. Neither does losing coverage that does not qualify as minimum essential coverage.Changes in Eligibility Status
Gaining Citizenship, Leaving Incarceration, Gaining Status as a Member of an Indian Tribe, (members of recognized Indian tribes can sign up for or change plans once per month throughout the year).
Already Enrolled in Marketplace Coverage?
Having a change in income or household status that affects eligibility for premium tax credits or cost-sharing reductions could qualify you for Special Enrollment Period.
